The Brief

The client was previously hosted on WordPress but faced access issues due to errors from previous developers, resulting in a website that remained live but inaccessible. Urgent action was necessary.

Inspired by the functionality of a competitor, the client aimed to transition to a modern, functional Shopify website. This new platform would enhance UX and streamline product selection by allowing customers to easily select the correct dash cam for their vehicle. Customers needed to specify their car's brand, model, and year to find the product that matched their search.

Another crucial requirement was to integrate the Shopify catalog seamlessly with Amazon and eBay, enabling streamlined inventory management from a unified platform.

The Challenge

During the course of this project, I encountered some of the most challenging obstacles in my career:

  1. Due to lack of access to the WordPress backend, exporting/importing products, customers, and orders was impossible.
  2. Mapping product fields to Amazon's specific format posed a significant challenge.
  3. Building a three-part dropdown menu for customers to select their vehicle's Brand, Model, and Year had to be developed from scratch.
  4. We needed to display lots of information about each product, and ensure clarity and digestible.

The Result

  1. We converted data from old spreadsheets the client had compiled into Shopify's template for data importation, leaving only a small amount of manual data entry the client was happy to assist with.
  2. We delved deeply into Amazon's product listing requirements and established an automated mapping and synchronisation channel between Shopify, Amazon, and eBay to ensure uniform product information and unified inventory management.
  3. Using Shopify metafields, we built a three-part dropdown menu allowing customers to go straight to the dash cam that matches their exact vehicle model, almost halving the number of clicks necessary to complete the buying experience.
  4. We utilised a great number of theme sections to distribute the product content in a compartmentalised way to ensure clarity and cohesion.
