Shopify Just Levelled Up. Here’s What You Need to Know.

2 min read

If you’ve ever wanted to build out a Shopify store without touching code — the new Shopify Editions Summer ‘25 drop is worth your time.

This isn’t just an update. It’s Shopify going full page-builder.

Here’s what’s new, what’s useful, and what actually matters.

Sections Everywhere (For Real This Time)

Yes, it’s finally here. True drag-and-drop layout control across every page — not just the homepage or product templates. You can now:

  • Edit collection pages, blogs, cart, account, and even checkout with modular blocks.
  • Easily duplicate existing sections and blocks, and drag them anywhere.
  • Add custom sections without hiring a dev — just a bit of creativity.
  • Mix content types (text, images, video, metafields) in a snap.

This is the kind of freedom Shopify designers have been hacking together for years. Now it’s native. Clean. Fast.

Visual Editing, Minus the Mess

The updated Theme Editor feels more like Webflow or Figma — but still keeps Shopify’s power under the hood.

  • You can re-arrange and preview layout changes instantly.
  • Sections are cleaner to manage — no more digging through code for minor edits.
  • It's built with responsiveness in mind — no more @media selectors in your custom CSS.
  • Templates now act more like “layouts” you can build and reuse across your site.

For store owners? This means fewer dev hours.
For designers? Faster builds and tighter control.

AI-Generated Sections Are Here

One of the most interesting updates: you can now AI-generate entire sections in the theme editor.

Think hero banners, testimonials, FAQs — Shopify’s AI will build the layout and content in a few clicks. It’s not flawless, but it’s a strong jumpstart when you need to move fast or get unstuck.

You can always tweak the design or copy, but having the bones built out for you? Huge time-saver.

This is Shopify getting closer to a true no-code, fast-build future — and it’s only going to get smarter from here.

Metafields Just Got Way More Useful

Shopify is leaning into structured data — which means you can create more flexible content systems (think: product comparison tables, ingredient lists, spec sheets) without custom apps.

It’s all editable directly in the admin, and now integrates beautifully with the new page builder tools.

Why It Matters

Shopify just made itself way more appealing to people who don’t want to hire someone for every little thing.

But ironically, it also made the job more fun for people like us who do.

You can build smarter stores, faster. Focus on strategy, UX, and content — not duct-taping workarounds.

A Few Bugs? Of Course.

Like any big release, there are a few quirks and bugs floating around — nothing major, but enough to remind you it's still new. Totally expected with a shift this big. Personally, I’m excited to see how Shopify polishes it up in the next Editions drop.

TL;DR

  • True page builder functionality is now baked in.
  • Sections, blocks, and templates work across all page types.
  • Metafields + visual editing = flexible, no-code control.

Your store is no longer boxed in. If you’ve been waiting to make the switch, or upgrade and scale-proof your theme, now’s a great time.
